Welcome to Castle Oatcakes

The Oatcake...fanzine of an English premier league football club or a much-loved culinary delight enjoyed by people of North Staffordshire, but little known in other parts of the country? Both! When Stoke City gained promotion to the top flight, after an absence of 23 years, they helped to bring a new optimism to a region. With the transfer of manufacturing of famous names like Spode and Royal Doulton to the far east, "The Potteries" are not what they were in 1985.

Lynne & Tony Barlow, with son Haydyn.

This optimism is very well demonstrated at Castle Oatcakes. Lynne and Tony Barlow bought the business, just outside Newcastle town centre, in 1988. In May 2008 (the same month that Stoke City clinched promotion) the shop re-opened at the rear of 78 London Road after an extensive refurbishment. With their son Haydyn and dedicated staff, they have a thriving business; delivering to local residents, businesses, hospitals, school and universities, traditionally made North Staffs oatcakes and pikelets; together with a varied breakfast and lunch menu. The new shop even has a small alfresco area for those few dry, warm days!

Our Website

By browsing the website you will be able to see the new shop and meet the team; learn more about oatcakes; see our breakfast and lunch menus, including the very popular Breakfast Box; read answers to the questions most frequently asked by our customers; see maps and directions if you don't know how to find us and a comments form if you wish to contact us. So if you live locally or are visiting the area, call into the shop. Otherwise give us a call (we’re open from 5am Wednesday to Sunday). We look forward to welcoming you.
